Frequently Asked Questions about The Thrifter's Union Local 933
Anchor 2

01

Are you a real labor Union?

No. As a reselling business, The Thrifter's Union Local 933 is a very tongue-in-cheek way to pay homage to our pasts as labor union members.

If we had you convinced we are a real union, then the creative direction of our brand is a lot better than we thought.

02

Why so expensive?

1. Brand

2. Overall condition of the pieces

3. Scarcity of specific pieces

3. All remaining costs of running a business at scale.

Although we do carry pieces at all price points, we want to meet client demand and interest (meaning mid-tier to luxury brand items).

We understand that our brand is not for everyone and we are proud to offer negotiable pricing on all of our items!

03

What's the deal with the cheetah head?

Growing up, we lived blocks away from a thrift store. For whatever reason, our parents called it "The Cheetah". We have no idea if this was its real name but that's what they called it. If you're a native Stocktonian, the thrift store was on the corner of Harding Way and Pilgram and is currently an auction company.

As we got older we called any thrift store "The Cheetah" out of habit. We still do.

When we decided to resell thrift finds, we knew we somehow had to work a cheetah into the brand. It's a tribute to our childhood and the influence of our parents.

04

Why can't I buy directly off your website?

We have found that we reach more buyers through tried and true reselling apps. You can shop our treasures on any one of these online selling platforms: Poshmark, Mercari, dePop, Grailed, Kidizen, Etsy and eBay

05

You mention the environment but you wash your clothes, aren't you wasting water?

We launder when and where we can because as a consumer, no one wants to receive an item that's dirty.

It may not be the most environmentally friendly alternative, but we make up for that in our personal lifestyles.

06

What laundry products do you use?

We use products like Tide Free and Clear for our adult clothing and Dreft for our children's pieces.

Although our detergents are fragrance-free, your items may have a light, pleasant, clean scent . . . that's the Lysol laundry sanitizer.

In some cases, we simply can't launder: delicate fabrics or items that still have brand/price tags attached.

We turn to our local professional dry cleaning services to handle items like coats and delicate dresses. Items that have been dry cleaned are noted in the descriptions.

07

Where do you find your inventory?

We find inventory in the most obvious of places: thrift stores all over Northern California. From big chains like Goodwill and The Salvation Army to locally owned and operated sites.

Inventory like ours is available to anyone and everyone. You too can find a pair of $350 jeans at the Goodwill for $4.99, but the trick is a combination of being at the right place at the right time and patience.

08

All of your inventory is thrifted?

Yes. Although the liquidation market is quite tempting, it would defeat the purpose of our brand.

We thrift and our inventory comes from the thrifting market. Why? Because it's the last step before millions of pounds of clothes end up in our landfills as textile waste.

There are so many great pieces that have a lot of life left in them and worth every penny on the reseller's market.
